Sperm Nurturing

Share

Semen analysis is the most important examination done on male infertility. If there are any abnormalities in the analysis, it could significantly decrease the pregnancy rate. Among them, the sperm's quantity and motility are the most important. IUI and a natural pregnancy have relatively higher requirements for semen quality, and even if IVF doesn't have higher requirements, it is still best to improve semen quality to increase pregnancy success rates.
TCM will give medications based on each person's physical state, it could range from oral medication to acupuncture, etc.

TCM Sperm Nurturing Classification
Damp-Heat Accumulation
Symptoms: Semen analysis may show the presence of white blood cells or a history of urinary tract infection. Semen is thick and fails to liquefy over time, with either a reduced or normal sperm count. Patients often feel hot, experience a bitter taste in the mouth, feel thirsty, and have a red tongue with a thick, greasy coating.

Qi and Blood Stagnation
Symptoms: Reduced semen volume and low sperm count, presence of varicocele, dark red tongue with stasis spots.

Kidney Essence Deficiency
Symptoms: Semen volume may be low or normal, but sperm concentration is insufficient. Patients often feel fatigued, have lower back and knee soreness, and noticeable dark circles under the eyes.

Daily reminders:
1. Not recommended to self-administer supplements
2. Daily lifestyle and diet are just as important, especially in alleviating mental and physical stress. Diet, in terms of male fertility, is also imperative to pregnancy success rates. Foods that are rich in protein, vegetables, and fruits should be consumed daily. Spicy, fried, or foods that are high in sodium should be consumed minimally.
3. Quit alcohol and smoking. Nicotine decreases the sperm's quantity and motility, and alcohol negatively impacts the sperm's morphology and motility.
4. Physical and chemical factors: radiotherapy and chemotherapy, heat energy, electromagnetic radiation, heavy metals (such as lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.), organochlorine compounds (such as polychlorinated biphenyls), and avoid pants that are too tight.
5. Moderate exercise, and avoid sitting for too long. Do not bathe or go to hot springs often, to avoid exposing the scrotum to high temperatures for some time.
