Miscarriage Care

Share

The physical and mental care after a miscarriage, whether it's a natural miscarriage or an abortion, is incredibly important. Proper nourishment prevents lingering aftereffects in the long run. Aside from a balanced diet, proper rest, and sufficient hydration, the body can heal itself so that there are no lasting problems. NUWA TCM doctors point out 3 important parts of aftercare for miscarriages:

1. Eliminate stasis: Primarily helps expel lochia from the uterus
2. Replenish Qi and blood: Once the lochia is expelled, regulation begins, commonly consuming herbal soups for nourishment
3. Nourish liver and kidney: Finally, tonify the liver and kidney that were depleted after the miscarriage, while also repairing the ovaries and uterus

Tips After A Miscarriage
What is the appropriate diet afterward? NUWA's TCM doctors recommend paying attention to:

1. Balanced nutrition and diet
Even if you're emotionally strained, a balanced diet is still imperative to get back on your feet. A balanced meal 3 times a day, with less sodium and proper nutrients is critical to nourish your body afterwards.

2. Consume high-quality protein
Fish, eggs, meat, and nuts are all rich in high-quality protein, and are crucial in helping repair your body after a miscarriage.

3. Consume food rich in replenishment
Foods that are rich in iron, folic acid, and vitamin B6 are critical, with foods like pig liver, spinach, black beans, and red dates.

4. Drink enough water
Aside from a balanced diet, drinking sufficient water is also important. After a miscarriage, women are more prone to sweating, thus dehydrating the body.

5. Prohibited foods
Stimulating or spicy foods are prohibited after a miscarriage, like caffeine, alcohol, any spicy food, or raw vegetable salads.
