Introduction

Share

Due to Taiwan’s policy, embryo implantation is limited to 4 embryos per procedure. If there are additional high-quality embryos after implantation, there’s an option to freeze them until the next treatment, thus not needing egg retrieval surgery again.

Why should I freeze an embryo?

▪ Extra high-quality embryos after implantation
▪ PGS test
▪ If the uterus condition is not suitable for implantation
▪ To avoid OHSS

Restrictions

▪ The embryos will be in storage for 10 years (they will be terminated after 10 years).
▪ If one of the spouses is deceased or dissolves the marriage.

Q&A

1. Are there risks for children born from frozen embryos?
There is no evidence of long-term risk to children born from frozen embryos.

2. Does freezing embryos affect pregnancy success rates?
Embryos that are cryopreserved have the same or an increased chance of implantation compared with that of fresh embryos. The process of freezing and thawing does not impact or harm the health of a baby conceived through IVF, nor does the length of time an embryo was stored affect success rates. Thanks to advancements in technology, there is minimal difference in pregnancy rates between frozen and fresh embryos.
