Xiaomei from the Philippines was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome- one of the causes of infertility problems but she managed to overcome it and achieve her dream of becoming a mother.

The Struggles and Challenges of PCOS

Despite Xiaomei from the Philippines being young, fit, and healthy, she was still diagnosed with PCOS. Xiaomei's husband is a soldier, and unlike most husbands who go home for dinner every night, her husband only returns home once every ten days or half a month due to work demands. Xiao Mei is married in Taiwan and longs for a baby for additional companionship in her daily life.

After multiple failed attempts, Xiaomei decided to visit NUWA Fertility Center for professional medical help and with high hopes of achieving pregnancy despite all her challenges with PCOS. Xiaomei finally met with Dr. Pei-Chen Huang for initial consultation.

During the first consultation, Dr. Huang prescribed ovulation drugs for two months. Although Xiaomei’s husband was willing to accompany her for follow-up visits, the timing for her follicle tracking didn’t align with her husband’s days off, which left her feeling frustrated.

Xiaomei wanted her husband to enjoy his day off instead of going with her and encouraged him to make the most of his holidays. They agreed that they would return to see Dr. Huang for further medical support if they still hadn't conceived in six months.

Expert Care and PCOS Treatment at NUWA

Xiaomei and her husband returned after 2 months of unsuccessful attempts. Although she was sweet and smiling as usual, she was desperately seeking help. Since her husband would change his stationed camp to another country again in a few months, she firmly decided to proceed with IVF treatment immediately for best and more efficient results! She said that it’s not easy to move from city to city, let alone another island.

During this period, Dr. Huang only used two ovulation injections, successfully retrieved 26 eggs, and froze 12 high-quality blastocysts. Soon after, a 5AA-grade blastocyst was implanted for the first time and needed to wait for another 10 days before doing a pregnancy test.

Later, Xiaomei’s mother-in-law, who is Taiwanese, accompanied her for another implantation. She was warm-hearted just like Xiaomei. She drove her back to the doctor and helped her with injections.

Even though Dr. Huang and the team already explained the medication and precautions to Xiaomei in English, her mother-in-law would always ask again to confirm because she was afraid of missing something.

A Successful Outcome

When Dr. Huang followed up with Xiaomei on the next visit, she announced to Xiaomei that she was finally pregnant! That day was the first time Dr. Huang saw Xiaomei cry. Xiaomei’s husband was set to be deployed to another country the following week, which was critical in their timing and pregnancy results. However, Dr. Huang’s good news lifted the weight of their worries, bringing a great sense of relief.

When everything was stable, Xiaomei received graduation blessings from Dr. Huang before being transferred to the obstetrics department for follow-up care. “We only used two ovulation needles and received 12 blastocysts. Imagine if we choose artificial insemination treatment, the risk of multiple births may not be small.” said Dr. Huang.
