The patient sent a thank-you card and a touching ultrasound image of her fetus from Hong Kong, expressing gratitude for helping her achieve her dream.
Having encountered many couples from Hong Kong, my first impression is always that they are racing against time. Their hectic lifestyles often mean that by the time they seek assisted reproductive treatments, they have already missed the prime fertility window (before 35 years of age).
When I first met Xiao Wen, 42, it was almost midnight. She said she had jumped on a flight right after work because she had no time. After multiple failed attempts at artificial reproductive treatments in Hong Kong, she came to Taiwan for a second opinion.
After two rounds of egg retrieval surgeries in Taiwan, the embryo implantation was successful on the first attempt. I carefully explained the quality of eggs at her age, the number of eggs needed to achieve a satisfactory live birth rate, and the steps involved. She mentioned that her husband of ten years (the sperm donor) was also very busy and couldn’t come to Taiwan to provide his sample immediately, so we decided to proceed with egg retrieval first. She promptly began taking ovarian stimulation injections—she truly acted as soon as she knew what needed to be done.
After collecting two rounds of frozen eggs, her husband finally had time to fly to Taiwan to thaw the eggs and proceed with fertilization, followed by preimplantation genetic screening (PGS).
Before the official embryo transfer, her endometrial thickness monitoring through blood tests in Hong Kong did not yield satisfactory results. At one point, she felt discouraged, unable to see the end of the road. I could only offer emotional support through video consultations.
Eventually, the conditions were favorable. She flew to Taiwan for the embryo transfer, a quick in-and-out trip. She completed her pregnancy test and subsequent prenatal check-ups in Hong Kong at a cooperating institution. A few days ago, I received her thank-you e-card and ultrasound images, and I was suddenly overwhelmed with tears. The woman who once said she had the least time to spare managed to squeeze out all her efforts to fulfill her dream!
NUWA Fertility Center – Taiwan IVF Patient Feedback
“Dear Dr. Ching Hui Chen, thank you so much! You made it possible for me to have my first successful IVF pregnancy at the age of 42!
Seeing our baby thriving in my womb every day, my husband and I were moved to tears!
Dr. Chen’s medication was precise, and her experience was invaluable. She patiently answered all my questions each time. The doctor and her team made me feel at ease. Even though I was in Hong Kong, everything went smoothly.
I remember on the day of the transfer, I was lying on the bed, feeling nervous. Watching you meticulously and accurately place the embryo in its destination through the screen filled me with confidence. We did it! I am infinitely grateful to you and your team!”
