Patient Journey: From Challenges to a Healthy Baby
In my traditional Chinese medicine clinic, we often check pulses, which allows me to assess if it's a "joy pulse." My friend, Dr. Ching Hui Chen, and I even had fun guessing the baby's gender based on pulse readings. Historically, we can make predictions around 12 weeks, while ultrasound confirmation typically comes after 14 weeks. The accuracy rate for pulse assessments is about 80%, which has earned me the nickname "human lie detector" from Dr. Chen!
However, there are exceptions. For one baby, I kept feeling uncertain about the gender, and ultimately, amniocentesis revealed it was a boy!
The mother is a perfectionist and a strong career woman who faced difficulties conceiving due to adenomyosis. Although she had just reached the age of amniocentesis, her desire to become a mother led her to pursue IVF without hesitation. Her baby boy was born in February, and she happily shared photos of her beautiful child. Congratulations to this wonderful family!
