This case involves a woman approaching the age of 45 who came to see Dr. Chao-Yun Wu at NUWA Fertility Center in Taichung. Prior to this, she had undergone several IVF treatments at other clinics, but unfortunately, all attempts were unsuccessful. A year and a half ago, she and her husband visited NUWA TCM, hoping to improve her egg quality before starting treatment again.

Declining AMH and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency — TCM and Western Medicine Combined for Regulation

During this period of body conditioning, we also tracked her follicle development with ultrasound through the Western medicine clinic. We hoped that if follicles appeared, she could try IVF again.

However, after several months, there was no significant improvement. Her AMH declined from 0.36 ng/mL to just 0.028 ng/mL within half a year.

Dr. Chao-Yun Wu discussed with the couple about the options of continuing with her own eggs, but considering her severely diminished ovarian reserve, continuing would be an extremely difficult journey. We suggested considering egg donation. Of course, this is never an easy decision—most people hope to have a genetic link with their child. But the bond created through pregnancy, birth, and parenting is equally precious.

At 45, She Reconsidered and Chose Egg Donation — Conceived Successfully on First Embryo Transfer!

After half a year of thoughtful consideration, the couple decided to proceed with donor eggs. We performed a hysteroscopy to ensure the uterine environment was suitable, and a matching donor was found. One embryo was transferred—and very fortunately, she became pregnant on the first attempt.

She is now just over three months along and has officially "graduated" from NUWA.

Considering her advanced maternal age and history of hypertension, which places her in the high-risk pregnancy category, we referred her to Dianthus OB-GYN in Taichung for ongoing prenatal care.

At NUWA Fertility Center, we provide a full-service care model—from IVF to prenatal checkups to delivery—ensuring comprehensive medical support so that mothers-to-be feel reassured and babies grow up healthy.
